Hi there!
CELPIP General has 4 skills Tests. The order of the questions is Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
In this article, we introduce “Reading Test” in CELPIP General.
Reading Test
- Listening test consists of 4 parts(Part1-4) in total.
- You will be tested on how well you can read and understand texts about personal, social, and workplace matters.
- You will need to understand a variety of texts, including e-mail messages, charts, personal or business correspondence, and short articles.
- The test duration is 55-60 minutes including guidance.
- You can read the text and then answer multiple choice questions, or you can read the original text and choose the corresponding answer.
- You can choose your answer from 4 options by clicking the mouse.
- A time limit is set for each display screen.
- The scoring is done by computer.
- Depending on the test you are taking, there may be additional “Unscored Items” for test survey development.
- You can take notes with the paper and pen distributed at the beginning of the test, however, it is unlikely that you will need to take notes on the Reading Test.
In the Reading Test, you read the text on the computer display and answer the questions using the computer’s mouse input.
Test Takers cannot decide the order of the questions, but must follow the order of the questions. In the Listening Test, you are expected to answer the questions in order from Part-1 to 4.
The display screen can be advanced to the next screen at will by clicking the mouse. However, once you go to the next screen, you cannot go back to the previous screen.
Each screen has a time limit, and when the time limit is reached, you will be forced to proceed to the next screen. When the time limit is reached, you will be forced to move on to the next screen, so you need to answer the questions within the time limit.

Practice Task
There is only one practice question before answering the main question.
The questions are very easy questions. This is a good way to check the display style of the question text and practice choosing answers from the displayed options.
Please note that wrong answers or unanswered questions (e.g. no clicks over the time limit) do not affect your Test Score, so there is no problem.

Unscored Items
There may be additional questions that are not covered by the Test Score used for CELPIP research and development. You will not know whether or not “Unscored Items” have been added to the test you are taking until you take the test on the day of the test.
CELPIP test has the following patterns.
- No “Unscored Items”
- Listening Test has “Unscored Items”.
- Reading Test has “Unscored Items”.
- Both Listening Test and Reading Test have “Unscored Items”.
When “Unscored Items” are added, you will be asked to answer the same format twice in a row.
“Unscored Items” in the Reading section will be the same format as any of the questions in Parts 1-4.
Test Taker will not be able to tell the difference between the Unscored Items and the main questions that are subject to Test Score.
Test Taker does not know whether the earlier or later question will be Test Scored(real questions), both questions must be answered seriously.
Test time varies depending on the presence or absence of Unscored Items, resulting in a difference in test time of 55-60 minutes. Answers will be either 4 or 5 parts total.
